Olivia Valentine: yery\u00fcz\u00fc sessiz de\u011fildir sergisi, Amerikal\u0131 sanat\u00e7\u0131 Olivia Valentine’\u0131n 2023 ve 2024 y\u0131llar\u0131nda \u0130zmir Kehmeralt\u0131’ndaki Maquis Projects’te ikamet ederken ve \u0130zmir Kar\u015f\u0131yaka’da Faz\u0131l Bey Caddesi’ndeki st\u00fcdyosunda \u00e7al\u0131\u015f\u0131rken \u0130zmir’de \u00fcretti\u011fi yeni i\u015flerden olu\u015fuyor.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valentine’in sanatsal prati\u011fi, yap\u0131l\u0131 \u00e7evre ile dokuma ve dantel yap\u0131m\u0131 gibi tekstil yap\u0131m s\u00fcre\u00e7leri aras\u0131nda ili\u015fki kurma ve bulma etraf\u0131nda d\u00f6nmektedir.  2023 ve 2024 y\u0131llar\u0131nda \u0130zmir’de ya\u015fayan Valentine, kent y\u0131k\u0131m ve (yeniden) in\u015fa yoluyla muazzam bir de\u011fi\u015fim ge\u00e7irirken Kar\u015f\u0131yaka’da \u00e7izim yapmaya ve zeminin dijital taramalar\u0131n\u0131 yapmaya odakland\u0131.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bu sergide, Kar\u015f\u0131yaka’n\u0131n ve \u0130zmir’in di\u011fer b\u00f6lgelerinin kald\u0131r\u0131mlar\u0131n\u0131n bir dizi 3D taramas\u0131 masa\u00fcstlerine yans\u0131t\u0131lacak. Duvarlarda, \u00e7e\u015fitli kald\u0131r\u0131m desenlerini ve bunlar\u0131n zemindeki k\u0131r\u0131lmalar\u0131n\u0131, dokuma yap\u0131lar i\u00e7in notasyonlar da dahil olmak \u00fczere bir dizi desen dili kullanarak ara\u015ft\u0131ran bir dizi suluboya \u00e7izim yer alacak. Bu \u00e7izimlerde kullan\u0131lan malzemeler aras\u0131nda geleneksel suluboya pigmentleri, demir safral\u0131 m\u00fcrekkep ve Kar\u015f\u0131yaka’da bulunan in\u015faat molozlar\u0131ndan elde edilen elle \u00f6\u011f\u00fct\u00fclm\u00fc\u015f pigmentler yer al\u0131yor.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olivia Valentine: yery\u00fcz\u00fc sessiz de\u011fildir (the ground is not a quiet place)<\/em> <\/em>is an exhibition featuring new works by American artist Olivia Valentine made in \u0130zmir in 2023 and 2024 while in residence at Maquis Projects in Kehmeralt\u0131, \u0130zmir, and working out of a studio on Faz\u0131l Bey Caddesi in Kar\u015f\u0131yaka, \u0130zmir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valentine\u2019s artistic practice revolves around finding and making relationships between the built environment and textile construction processes such as weaving and lacemaking.  Living in \u0130zmir in 2023 and 2024, Valentine has focused on drawing and making digital scans of the ground in Kar\u015f\u0131yaka while the city undergoes enormous change through demolition and (re)construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this exhibition, a series of 3D scans of the sidewalks of Kar\u015f\u0131yaka and other areas of \u0130zmir will be projected on tabletops. The walls will hold a series of watercolor drawings that investigate various paving patterns and their ruptures in the ground using a number of pattern languages, including notations for woven structures. The materials used in these drawings include traditional watercolor pigments, iron gall ink, and hand-milled pigments created from construction debris found in Kar\u015f\u0131yaka.<\/p>\n\n
